The Trauma Cycle Conundrum: Why You’re Feeling Stuck

The Trauma Cycle Conundrum: Why You’re Feeling Stuck (and How to Shake It Off)
Ever notice how some days you’re dragging through life like a sad Taylor Swift ballad on repeat, and other days you feel unstoppable? A lot of that comes down to how trauma-big and small-is sitting in your body, quietly calling the shots.
Big T’s vs Little t’s: What’s Really Happening
Trauma isn’t one-size-fits-all.
- Big T’s: Major, life-shaking events—accidents, heartbreaks, major loss.
- Little t’s: Micro-stresses, repeated disappointments, negative beliefs creeping in over time.
Both leave an imprint—not just emotionally, but physically, too. Ignored or suppressed trauma can contribute to headaches, chronic pain, digestive issues, tension, and other physical ailments. Your body is trying to tell you something—it’s time to listen.
Animals Have It Easier… Or Do They?
Look at an antelope grazing the plains. When a predator shows up, it’s all systems go: heart racing, adrenaline pumping, all senses on high alert. Then the danger passes… and the antelope does something humans often don’t: it shakes it off. Every muscle. Every cell. The trauma doesn’t linger-it literally leaves the body.
We humans? Not so much. Instead of shaking off stress, we often:
- Freeze
- Ignore it
- Distract ourselves with busyness
- Suppress emotions
…And those unprocessed experiences stick around, storing themselves in our muscles, our nervous system, and even our organs. Over time, little t’s stack up. Big T’s leave deep grooves. The result? Patterns, anxieties, physical tension, and blocks that feel impossible to shake.
Why It Matters
When trauma isn’t released, it shapes our choices without us even realising. You might:
- Overreact to small triggers
- Default to fear instead of curiosity
- Sabotage your own happiness
- Feel tension or pain in your body with no apparent cause
It’s not that you’re broken-it’s that your body is still holding the story of those moments. And here’s the good news: you can shake it off, just like the antelope, once you know how.
Breaking the Cycle
The first step? Awareness. Simply recognising the difference between little t’s and big T’s, and noticing where trauma is showing up in your body, is powerful.
Next: release. Trauma doesn’t vanish by ignoring it; it needs to move through you. That could look like:
- Gentle movement or exercise
- Breathwork or meditation
- Metaphysical Anatomy technique (aka using the body to unlock and release old emotional patterns)
- Therapy or somatic practices
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s allowing your body to complete the natural trauma cycle that was interrupted the first time around.
Shake it, wiggle it, cry it, sing it out—whatever it takes.
- Trauma comes in all sizes: Big T’s and little t’s.
- Your body is a living record of what you’ve experienced.
- Animals instinctively release trauma; humans often don’t—but we can.
- Awareness + conscious release = freedom from patterns and stuck energy.
The next time life feels heavy, remember: your body is giving you clues. Don’t get stuck in The Trauma Cycle Conundrum. Treat it kindly, listen to it, and help it shake off what it no longer needs. That’s how you move from “stuck” to unstoppable.
