Abundance Explained Through the Nervous System

Fluent in Woo: Abundance Explained Through the Nervous System
Metaphysical Phrasebook — Entry 11
In this series, I translate commonly used spiritual phrases through the lens of the nervous system so they become practical, grounded and easier to understand.
Let’s translate abundance explained through the nervous system — and why abundance is less about attracting more… and more about feeling safe enough to receive it.
Abundance is one of the most popular words in spiritual spaces.
It appears in books, affirmations and vision boards everywhere.
But it can also feel frustratingly vague.
So let’s translate it.
Because many spiritual words sound mystical when in reality they are describing very real mind-body processes.
What Abundance Sounds Like
You may have heard things like:
✧ “Step into abundance.”
✧ “Call in more abundance.”
✧ “The universe wants you to be abundant.”
✧ “Abundance is your birthright.”
It often sounds like abundance is something floating somewhere outside of you.
Waiting to arrive.
But abundance actually works very differently.
Abundance Explained Through the Nervous System
Abundance isn’t only about attracting more.
It’s about your nervous system feeling safe enough to receive, keep and grow what arrives.

Sometimes your nervous system learns that having more comes at a cost.
More money meant more arguments.
More success brought more expectations.
Being noticed attracted criticism.
Asking for something extra was met with disappointment.
None of those experiences are about abundance itself.
They’re about what your system came to expect when life became bigger.
Imagine walking through a field picking strawberries.
At first you pick carefully. One or two berries at a time.

But as your basket fills, something interesting happens.
You start noticing how many strawberries are actually available.
Before long, the basket begins to overflow. The abundance was always there.
But your ability to receive and hold it determined how much you carried.
Your internal capacity works the same way.
When your nervous system feels safe with more — more becomes easier to hold.
How Abundance Gets Blocked
Sometimes abundance is limited by invisible rules your system learned earlier in life.
Rules like:
✧ Don’t outshine others
✧ Don’t ask for too much
✧ Don’t take up space
✧ Don’t be too successful
Those rules may once have helped you stay connected or avoid criticism.
But later in life they can quietly cap expansion.
Which is why abundance work often begins inside the nervous system.
Not outside in the world.
The Empowering Part
Your capacity for abundance can grow.
As your nervous system begins to expect a different outcome, receiving no longer feels unfamiliar.
You stop bracing for the catch.
Opportunities become easier to accept.
Growth asks for less effort because you’re no longer spending so much energy protecting yourself from it.
The CPR Check
Sometimes what we call “money blocks” or “abundance blocks” are simply coping patterns running quietly in the background.
If you’re curious which pattern may be influencing your decisions, the CPR Check (Coping Pattern Recognition) helps you gently identify the strategy your nervous system built — and what it was protecting.
Because once you understand the pattern, you can begin updating it.
Spiritual language often sounds mysterious.
But when you understand the translation, it becomes practical.
